The International
General Electric Company of New York (GE U.S.A.) founded a bespoke engineering
facility in Daventry Northamptonshire England during the early eighties.
The purpose of this department was to develop new applications and to
extend the customer base for the Mark Century series of CNC controls.
During this time the department secured a foothold in several major
industries including steel production and aerospace. This office continued
its work up to and beyond the merger with Fanuc of Japan.
After
a period
of time
it
was
felt that
custom
engineering
solutions were not a part of the corporate marketing strategy and that
the department would now concern itself mainly with application work.
Rather than be faced with a desk job reciting manuals over the telephone
the department disbanded and a number of engineers left to form A-Tec
Systems.
